the importance of personality in a portrait

There’s something I always come back to when I photograph people it is not just about how someone looks. It is about who they are. Personality matters more to me than perfection.

I like to photograph people in a way that reflects something real. Sometimes that means choosing a slightly unexpected expression or including a bit of movement. I am not interested in overly posed images that feel distant or generic. What I enjoy is when something genuine breaks through a glance, a laugh, a stillness that feels like them.

This is also why I prefer to keep my process relaxed. I usually guide people gently, but I try not to over-direct. Everyone brings something different, and I like allowing space for that. I think the best portraits are the ones that hold something of the person inside them not just a surface-level likeness.

I work with a mix of actors, artists, freelancers, and people who simply want portraits for themselves. Regardless of the reason, I approach each shoot with the same mindset curiosity, care, and attention to detail. I want the final images to feel like them. Not a version shaped by trends or filters, but something more lasting.

To me, that is what makes a portrait memorable.
